Gracie Jiu Jitsu Master Cycle

Beyond blue belt, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu consists of hundreds of advanced techniques organized into a clearly defined, systematic curriculum called the Master Cycle. The Master Cycle’s unique structure simplifies the journey to black belt by organizing all of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu into seven positional chapters (Mount, Side Mount, Guard, Half Guard, Back Mount, Leg Locks, Standing), each of which is studied for several months before moving on to the next chapter.

If you’ve achieved the rank of blue belt or higher, and you would like to continue on the path to black belt in a safe, structured, and friendly learning environment, the Master Cycle is for you!

Features Of Master Cycle Classes:

A Structured Curriculum

Unlike many other clubs where techniques are shown at random and with little relation between one class and the next, our classes are highly structured. We focus on one position at a time for a period of several months and the classes will involve techniques, many interlinking, such as submissions, submission defences, positional controls and escapes.

Technical Instruction

Each class you will learn a selection of techniques from the Master Cycle syllabus, presented clearly and in detail. You will then practice the techniques with a co-operative partner. Often we will then introduce manageable resistance to more thoroughly test the effectiveness of the moves.

Focus Sparring

Our Master Cycle classes incorporate both focus sparring and free sparring. We instill in our students the principals of co-operative learning and ego-less sparring, so safety and care for our sparring partners is very high on our agenda. Any students who do not train in a safe and productive manner would not be allowed to participate. In focus sparring we look to use the techniques learned in that week’s classes and to develop comfort with the positions and submissions that have been taught.

Review Weeks

Review weeks are an absolutely crucial part of our system. After completion of each chapter of our training we take 1-2 weeks to thoroughly review all of the techniques we have been learning. For many students this is the time when those techniques really ‘sink in’ and become a true part of their jiu jitsu game.
